Wickerwork is one of traditional Chinese folk handicrafts. In ancient times, people only used it as an ordinary daily necessities, and it didn't rise until the last few decades of the 20th century. It gradually became a foreign exchange earning project in parts of China. There are three major wicker production bases in China, Hubei, Shandong, and Anhui (in addition, Henan is also rich in wicker).
The wicker is soft and easy to bend, the thickness is uniform and the color is elegant. Through the novel design, it can be woven into a variety of simple, natural, beautiful, lightweight and durable practical crafts. Its products include: wicker boxes (bags), rice baskets, vegetable baskets (round, ellipse), chops, needle thread baskets, kang mats, reed foil, etc. As the industry continues to develop and products continue to innovate, more novel, practical and beautiful willow products will be displayed in front of customers.
On June 7, 2008, Liubian was approved by the State Council to be included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage lists.
The origin of willow can be traced back to the early Paleolithic era. The primitive people made various containers and packaging materials during the process of collecting crops, using resilient plants, and with the help of preliminary grasping of the preparation method, produced different types of wicker products. From the slave society to the Warring States period, Liubian has been widely used in people's lives, and it has become one of the indispensable living utensils in people's daily life through various dynasties.
Wicker baskets and baskets appeared in the Neolithic Age. During the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, cups, plates, etc. were woven with wicker and painted with lacquer on the outside, called cups. In the Tang Dynasty, Liu Cang in Cangzhou (now Cangzhou in Hebei and north of Ningjin in Shandong) was already famous. In the Song Dynasty, people took the thin strips of Qiliu, "the fire forced them to flex and make boxes." Since then, the wicker craft has continued to develop. The traditional varieties of wicker are mainly suitcases, dust pans and dustpans. Since 1960, China's willow handicrafts have been exported, and production has developed considerably.
There are many types of willow products, including domestic, basket, basket, dustpan, fence, wicker box, dustpan, flower basket, skewer, food tray and other types of domestic sales. In terms of export, after development and design, a variety of laundry baskets, flower pot covers, picnic tableware baskets, hanging baskets, lampshades, doghouses, cathouses, bird nests, etc. have been formed. Very much valued by the foreign trade department.
